Elfand Wall Sconce

Look closely at the shade and you will see it is dimpled all over, as though worked by hand with a planishing hammer, so that light skates across its black surface in tiny points. The dome hangs from a curving gooseneck arm of painted black iron, the classic profile of a stable or barn lamp given a little more character than usual. It is a generous piece, fourteen inches tall, with the weight of presence a long wall needs. Mount it above a potting-shed door wreathed in climbing roses, or over the outdoor sink where you rinse the morning's harvest of tomatoes and beans.
