Chinese Chippendale Coffee Table Base

Low tables carry a great deal of everyday life on a terrace: the morning paper, a bowl of figs, a glass of something cold as the light fades. This coffee table base, nearly four feet long and seventeen inches high, brings Chinese Chippendale geometry down to sofa level, so the open fretwork stays in view from every seat. Under a sheet of glass, the lattice throws patterned shadow onto the paving at midday; under honed limestone it feels more grounded and formal. Set it before a settee on the loggia, with pots of lavender and rosemary close enough to brush past.
