Windowpane check comes from the tailor's cutting table, but it looks surprisingly at home outdoors, where it echoes the grid of a parterre or the glazing bars of an old glasshouse. Here fine charcoal lines frame squares of soft ivory and grey across a woven square pouf. It is tidy without being stiff, and the lines give it a crisp edge against loose planting. Put it on a terrace beside clipped boxwood balls in lead-grey planters, or by a wrought-iron bench in a formal garden, and let it play its quiet part in the geometry.
