This one, fifty inches wide, takes the crossed-leg curule form of ancient Rome and gives it a back, so it invites lingering over morning coffee as the dew lifts from the lawn. Tuck it into an arbour hung with clematis, or set it on a brick terrace where pots of lavender and rosemary release their scent each time a sleeve brushes past. Add cushions in a plain, linen-coloured fabric and the neo-classical lines take on a softer, more domestic warmth.
