Cape Town Dining Chair

A tall-backed chair gives a dinner table a certain ceremony, even outdoors, and this one does it without stiffness. Its frame is aluminium, hand-painted in a mellow wheat tone, with arms of slim vertical slats and a back that rises well above the shoulders; white cushions soften both seat and back. Arrange a set around the stone-topped Cape Town table under a pergola hung with lanterns, and plant a hedge of sweet-scented pittosporum nearby so the evening breeze carries its perfume across the plates.
