A low table on the terrace is where the evening's small rituals happen: a candle lit, a cheese board shared, a dog's head resting on a knee. This base from O'Brien Ironworks' Gothic Revival collection carries a top forty inches long and thirty-two wide, set at a relaxed eighteen inches. Its collection takes its spirit from the Victorian enthusiasm for medieval romance, which suits an old brick courtyard with ivy on the walls and a fountain trickling nearby. Crown it with a slab of slate or a sheet of glass, and in dark grey or faux rust it carries the patina of age from the very first day.
