Cali Garden Stool

Feathery leaves run up the sides of this ivory stool in a herringbone pattern, like fronds pressed into soft clay. The relief is shallow but distinct, and the creamy glaze settles into its grooves so the pattern softens as the light fades. A slight waist gives the form an easy, organic curve. Set it in a shady corner among autumn ferns and holly ferns, so its pattern seems to echo the planting around it. On a covered porch it becomes a gentle side table beside a chair, with room for a small vase of cut sweet peas.
