Blackwell Garden Stool

Overlapping scales cover this barrel stool, like the bracts of a pine cone or the leaves of an artichoke folded tight. Each is embossed in low relief under a white glaze finely speckled with blue-grey, the way a quail's egg is spotted. Run a hand down the side and you feel the ridges one after another. It has a rustic elegance that suits a kitchen garden, set beside raised beds of lettuce and chard, or the doorway of a potting shed where it can hold seed packets and a mug of coffee. On a porch, it pairs well with grey-washed furniture.
