Bizen Garden Stool - Black

Some shapes look as though they were balanced by hand and simply left that way. This garden stool rises in four rounded tiers, like river stones stacked one upon another, and its black glaze gathers in each groove so the light slides over the curves and leaves the hollows in deep shadow. Glossy and cool to the touch on a shaded porch, it has a sculptural gravity that belies its modest size. Set it beside a white-painted Adirondack chair to hold a glass of iced tea, or let it raise a pot of trailing silver dichondra at the edge of the pool terrace.
