Avignon Armchair

An armchair offers something a side chair cannot: a place to rest your elbows and linger after the plates are cleared. The Avignon armchair keeps the same compact footprint as its side-chair sibling, 20 inches wide with a 35-inch back and a 17-inch seat height, so the two mix easily around a dining table. Set a pair at the ends of a long table under a vine-covered pergola, or place one alone beneath a magnolia with a view across the lawn, where the lemony scent of the blossom drifts down on warm evenings. Its French country character is relaxed and unpretentious.
