Achilles Garden Stool

Leaves crowd every surface of this barrel stool, carved and pierced in deep relief, as if a tangle of ivy had been caught mid-growth and glazed. The teal is deep and glossy, darkening in the hollows and catching the light on every raised edge, while rows of studs band the top and bottom rims in the traditional way. It has a rich, almost Victorian abundance. Place it in a fernery or a shaded courtyard among cast-iron plants and maidenhair, or on a porch with dark green shutters, where its colour seems to belong to the house itself.
