Three Herons in Grass Fountain Bronze Statue

At the margin of the pond, three herons stand among tall bronze grasses, necks curved, each one patient and still as if waiting for a fish to rise. Water moves through the sculpture and spills away with a soft, steady sound, like a stream finding its way through reeds. Touch a slender leg or a feathered wing and the bronze is cool and wet with spray, its detail fine enough to read with your fingertips. In the early morning the air there smells of water lilies and damp earth.

The group was cast in bronze by the lost-wax method, from the intricate plumage to the naturalistic grass fronds, and its patina grows richer outdoors over the years. It looks best rising from the shallows of a koi pond, beside a spa garden or as the centrepiece of a courtyard water feature.
