Orchid Planter

Orchids like to be admired, and this planter lifts them to meet the eye. A fluted bowl of matte white ceramic, its ribs drawing fine lines of shadow in the morning light, rests on three splayed legs of natural beechwood with all the easy poise of a mid-century side table. Set a white moth orchid in it beside a bright window on the sun porch, or let a maidenhair fern spill over the rim in a shaded corner of the loggia, where the pale wood and chalky glaze look soft and cool together.
