Classic Obelisk

The obelisk is the backbone of the English border: a tall, tapering spire that gives sweet peas, clematis and climbing roses something to scramble up, and lends a bed structure even in the depths of winter. This Classic Obelisk rises an imposing 104.5 inches, more than eight and a half feet, on an 18-inch square base. O'Brien Ironworks forges it to order in iron or aluminium. Set one at the centre of a potager wreathed in runner beans, at the end of a long border, or in pairs flanking a path, where its silhouette reads clearly against the sky long after the flowers have faded.
