Chinese Foo Dog Bronze Statue Set

At the foot of the front steps, two guardian lions sit facing the path, manes curling like carved smoke and mouths open as if mid-roar. Morning light slides over their shoulders and catches the ridges of each curl, while somewhere behind them a breeze stirs bamboo with a dry, papery rustle. The male rests a paw on a sphere, the female on a small cub, and together they give an entrance a feeling of calm watchfulness. After rain the bronze smells faintly of wet stone and the air tastes clean and green.

Both guardians are cast in bronze by the lost-wax method, which captures the ornate manes and fierce expressions in fine detail. A hand-applied patina deepens in character over the years and stands up to the weather, and at 100 pounds each they sit securely flanking a doorway, gate or garden entrance.
