Chateau Wire Bench

Wirework has a lightness no solid bench can match: it lets the garden show through, so lavender and santolina seem to grow right up to the seat. This bench is drawn in the manner of the French provincial potager, with open wire panels that throw lacy shadows on gravel in the late sun. At five and a half feet long it seats two comfortably, three at a squeeze. Place it at the end of a path edged with clipped box, against a sun-warmed wall trained with espaliered pears, or beside a fountain where the splash of water fills the pauses in conversation.
