Long summer lunches have a way of drifting into the evening, and a table needs the length to allow for that. This one stretches to almost seven feet, its top a slab of pale, matte stone the colour of sand at low tide, cool under the forearms even when the terrace is warm. Beneath it, an aluminium base hand-painted in a soft wheat tone curves gently down into arched stretchers, graceful to look at and steady in stance. Set it beneath a pergola draped in jasmine, with a bowl of Meyer lemons down the centre.
