This base from O'Brien Ironworks' Gothic Revival collection takes a top four feet long and thirty-two inches wide at a classic thirty inches, room for a teapot, a cake stand and a few cups and saucers. Set it in a sheltered corner of the garden, where an espaliered pear grows on a warm brick wall and the hum of bees fills the herb bed. With a sheet of glass or a slab of honed stone on top, and in black or light grey, it brings a quiet Victorian formality to the ritual.
